Research Tips: |
- Find the basic information on CIA Factbook, which is a United States Government resource that profiles countries around the world, including information about the culture, economy, geography, and the government.
- Check out the page from Answers.com - this is an excellent search engine where the results are primarily research resources such as encyclopedias and dictionaries. If you are required to do a bibliography, be sure to scroll down to the end of the page where the sources sited are available.
- When looking at articles with a lot of text, save paper! Don't print the entire article for just a couple of lines of information. Under the Edit menu, click Find. The Find option allows you to put in a word or phrase in the field and search for that term in the page. Read the section where the word is found to gather thorough information based on the context in the paragraph.
- Use Google to find additional resources when you have some basic information. For example, once you find out the name of the country's national holiday from the CIA World Factbook, then to find out more about how the citizens celebrate, look it up using a search that looks like this: (using plus sign between terms or quotation marks)
- Ask.com is a great place to get information. Ask is a great search engine because you can put a question in the search box, and the results will provide relevant information. In addition, if you need to see what something looks like, such as the country's currency or flag, Ask.com has a good image search engine that provides pictures of your requested topic.
