As part of my role I provide workshops, teacher training, guidance and resources to schools to help them incorporate sustainable travel into their curriculum. One such example would be website lists for them to research for ideas and so forth. The ultimate aim of my work is to create a modal shift, which is driven by teachers and students and one that continues once I have moved to other schools. In my 5 years in the project I have handed out website lists to schools to help them research items themselves but understandably few have looked at them. In addition, many schools seek to do travel projects but stress about the time spent by students searching for websites of interest or don’t know where to look and so either return to me for project ideas or give up.

This is the first time I have taught the MS Career Development (Careers 7) class. I wanted a tool to allow the students to showcase what they are learning in the class. I got new iPad minis for my classroom so I wanted to be able to integrate projects created on the iPads. I had used LiveBinders for some other projects but I thought this would be a great way for the students to collect and highlight what they learned in class. The students created their binders and I told them what tab and sub tab names to use. They had to upload the required projects and explain what they had to do. I told them that someone who was not in the classroom should be able to understand their binders.

This binder is a collection of the activities completed to learn about the Nebraska Career Education model in a JH careers class. A majority of items were created using iPads apps. LiveBinders was a great platform for my Careers 7 class to showcase what they learned about the Nebraska Career Education Model. It was easy for them to learn how to use and it provided a digital portfolio they can access in the future. Their portfolios have been a good resource for my current Careers 7 students.
