New Item – Setting Your Default Author Name
By Tina Schneider
Back to Tips & Tricks
In the coming months, we will introduce easier ways to add an author name to your binders. This includes the ability to set a default author name that will automatically apply to any new and existing binders in your account.
Why the Change?
Currently, when you create a binder, you can add an author name, but it is not required. If no author name is set, the system defaults to your username as the author name. This has caused confusion, especially for users who:
- Want to assign different authors to different binders.
- Need to transfer an account without keeping the original username as the author name.
By setting a default author name, you gain more flexibility while reducing reliance on your username.
With this update, we are enforcing the author name field and will gradually phase out the system’s dependence on usernames as default author names.
Updating Existing Binders
If you have existing binders without an assigned author name, you can now set a default author name that will automatically apply to those binders. To do this:
- Go to My Profile.
- At the top of the page, click “Set Default Binder Author Name.”
- This will take you to the Change User Settings section.
- Under Default Binder Author Name, enter your preferred author name in the text box provided.
You can still override the default author name for individual binders by navigating to Settings > Name within each binder. The author name set at the binder level will take priority over the default. Visit our Help Guide for more information.
Next Phase
In our next update, we will require an author name for every new or copied binder you create. Stay tuned for more details in the coming updates!
