Change and Diversity in a Community: Focal Point - Ghana
The purpose of this unit is to explore the ways a community can change over time, and to examine the reasons for that change. Students will understand that the movement of people and populations, and the creation of new technology can cause change. Three eras will be briefly examined: early Native Americans (Ojibwe), the 1800s, and modern times in the United States and Ghana. Students will learn about immigrants, the different aspects of cultures around the world and within their communities, and how new cultures have impacted American society. They will use what they learn to identify similarities and differences among cultures. They will also learn about the Peace Corp, and how they can make changes both locally, and globally.
