World Language Unit Plan Exemplars
These unit plan exemplars were submitted by world language teachers around New York State (NYS) and vetted for their fidelity to the priorities of the revised NYS Learning Standards for World Languages. These priorities include thematic unit design, functional Can-Do Statements with Acceptable Evidence for each learning standard, integration of authentic resources, and vocabulary and grammar in support of communication and culture learning. hese unit plan exemplars are being provided to support teachers as they transition to the revised standards starting in September 2023 through full implementation in the 2028-2029 school year. These unit plans are provided as exemplars that reflect the priorities of the NYS Learning Standards for World Languages and may be used by teachers to guide the development of their own thematic units. While the learning standards are established at the state level, the curricula through which students will achieve those standards are left to the individual districts and schools.
