Chapter 5
Chapter 5
For this activity, we will not use the reflection model. Instead, we will use our knowledge of Single System Design. Pretend you are a social worker looking in on the town of Hinkley. Choose any character from the film to be your client. This could be a resident, a child, Erin, Ed, Theresa, etc. Develop a single-system design outline that uses Motivational Interviewing as the intervention of choice. Answer the following:
Client Name: Erin
a. Describe your sample and setting. Female, white, adult, 2 kids. I will conduct the meetings in the clients house.
b. Describe the target behavior. Struggling to trust and depend on others.
c. Using the Stage of Change chart on page 137 of your text, identify which stage of change you think your client is in based on the information you know from the movie and WHY you believe this.
d. The stage that my client is in is the preparation stage. I believe that she is in the preparation stage because she has decided to trust and depend on the man who wants to take care of her children, and she is taking steps to trust in and depend on him.
e. Identify your research question.
Will one session of motivational interviewing, help her learn to trust in and depend on other people?
f. List three types of interventions you would CONSIDER trying. (MI should be one of them).
The three interventions that I would consider trying are; MI, Support groups, and individual counseling.
g. Identify your dependent variable and independent variable. Dependent variable is increase in trust and dependence on other people. Independent variable: Motivational Interviewing.
h. What methodology will you use? Single system design
i. What design will you use? I will use the AB design.
j. What measurement will you use? Daily Journal that charts improvement in trust and dependence.
