Fostering a Love of Reading in a 21st Century Learning Commons
This binder represents our journey to a 21st Century Learning Commons while focusing on fostering a love of reading with my students. I have always wanted my media center to be the hub of our school and it is but this year we began a renovation that will give us the 21st Century Learning Commons that we have been looking for. This project will give insight to the process of planning for the renovation, preparing the space, collaborating with facilities and technology services, and working with vendors for paint, furniture, and technology. Once our space is complete, I will be introducing our 4th and 5th grade students to a new reading initiative called Biblionasium while continuing to promote Accelerated Reader to our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders. Biblionasium fosters a love of reading while allowing students to create book lists, make recommendations, and participate in reading challenges in a social media type of atmosphere. Accelerated Reader continues to motivate our younger students and encourage them to read and surpass their personal reading goals. Our new space will focus on technology rich, collaborative lessons that support the standards.
