It is clear that family engagement is critical to early learning program success, yet many programs find parent engagement ‘a problem,’ failing to see how critical a role parents play as their child’s first and most important teacher, and failing to understand just how much family and community engagement can add to a program. On the heels of its leadership in the Early Learning Council’s Family and Community Engagement Committee and its ‘on the ground’ experience in implementing partnerships to strengthen parent engagement, Illinois Action for Children proposes to raise standards of practice in this critical area.
