College Access Binder
An online binder with helpful information, advice and resources for college planning. It is copyable so you can duplicate and customize as you prefer. I suggest you create a Livebinder with five tabs for your top 5 colleges: 1-2 Dream Schools 1-2 Reach schools 1-2 In-state tuition.
As you go through the process, the order will switch and the colleges may change. Add a checklist of what you need for each school and consider linking it to the online calendar you use to keep up with the deadlines on your phone.
Make sure your binder's setting is PRIVATE and give your parent/guardian the password. If they can see your progress online, the limited time you share won't have to be spent asking for updates on this process.
A few more tips:
1) If all your preferred choices are large colleges, make the point to visit a small university too. Try visiting at least one of the opposite of what you prefer.
2) Keep a journal with notes of your college tours (Virtual or not) so they don't all blend in as one.
3) If you go in person, always eat in the cafeteria. Don't ask questions for which the answer is on the website. Ask better questions, those that matter to you. See the section College Tours for more tips.
Last, the wisest man in the Bible was the one who wrote most about seeking advice. Find adults you love and trust to ask: What do you think are my strengths? What career(s) do you think I would be most likely to succeed in? Try to listen without interrupting. Make time to process what they shared and to listen to the quiet voice inside. Then remember the words from Isaiah 30: 20-21.
