Professional Portfolio
Hello, my name is Veronica Guadian, welcome to my online portfolio. I am currently a graduate student at The University of Texas at El Paso working on completion in the of Master of Rehabilitation Counseling Program. I am currently in my 5th semester and actively completing my Practicum at PRIDE Industries. Under supervision as an Intern I assist in providing ongoing support to people with disabilities at a federal Ability One contract. I assist with documenting and maintaining case files to include limitations employee may have due to disability and reasonable accommodations that employee may need to perform job duties.
I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Services at the University of Phoenix. Which prepared me to take on entry level roles in positions such as aged care services and behavioral health.
I have experience in varies areas which include working at Girling Community Care. My position was a Field Supervisor. This was my first experience in working with the aging and disabled community. I conducted on-s site client evaluations and developed a service plan. It was my responsibility to recruit, hire, train, and supervise attendants. During my time here I was able to learn the importance of documentation. I also acquired the ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve problems. I also worked at La Familia Del Paso. I started out as Rehabilitation Specialist and worked my way up to Supervisor. As a Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist, I worked with individuals with mental health disabilities. It was here where I had more hands on with clients. I learned how to empower them in identifying symptoms and implementing coping strategies to prevent relapse and allow them to live independent meaningful lives. It was here that I learned working in the helping field is my passion. I eventually moved up to Supervisor position. It was my responsibility to oversee Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist. It was here that I acquired the ability to influence a group of people to work towards a goal. I also developed analytical skills, decision making, and relationship building. These skills provided me opportunities to help my team provide quality service to consumers.
My overall experience that I have obtained through my education and work has allowed me to not only develop new skills but also realize that working with individuals with disabilities is at times challenging yet, very rewarding. As I continue my journey into Mater of Rehabilitation Counseling, I look forward to developing new skills so that I can be able to make a difference in the lives of those who struggle daily with their disabilities.
