My father's stories about the battle of Guadalcanal were  incredibly vivid.  I could almost smell the stench of the bodies as they piled up on the shores.  They tried to get them out to sea, but the waves gently returned them like a constant reminder of the devastation that the battle had brought to this small island.

The sites in these tabs are amazing in their detail of this historic battle.  My father was one of the lucky ones. After contracting malaria in Gaudacanal, they sent him to New Zealand to recover.  Many of the men he was with did not survive the next battle in the Pacific Islands.
