Hello All,

I know many of you have been following the progress of the Semeria Park project. As you may be aware, over the last several months a geotechnical analysis was being conducted to analyze the stability of the soil at the site. The completed report was recently received by the City of Belmont. The recommendations being made may have an impact on the final design and project cost. The Parks and Recreation Commission will be discussing the project at the March 3, 2010 Commission meeting. The meeting will begin at 7:00pm in the Council Chambers of City Hall. All are invited to attend.

Update Oct 19  From an email From Daniel Ourtiague:

SEMERIA PARK UPDATE:

The conceptual designs of the park have been presented to the residents, the Parks and Recreation Commission and also the Planning Commission. The overall design has been well received and some valuable recommendations have been made. The Parks and Recreation Commission is waiting for the revised version of the design which will be completed once the geotechnical report and soil analysis has been completed.

As you may be aware, this is a fill site which was filled when the neighboring homes were built in the 1960”s and the slope stability analysis must be conducted. The recommendation based on the analysis will ultimately drive the design and mitigation measures for the park design and its construction cost.

The city is currently soliciting bids from geotechnical firms for this work and the submittals are due on October 21, 2009. The selected consultant will bore and take soil samples for testing and make recommendations based on the results. This is a crucial part of the park design. The Landscape Architect will then revise the final design for presentation to the Parks & Recreation Commission. This will likely occur over the next several months and we are currently still on pace for construction to begin in the spring of 2010. The city is continuing to move this project forward as quickly as possible.

There was a public meeting held at the site on July 18.  See the second tab above for the options that were presented.  The neighbors were most favorable of Option A shown in the subtab of Tab 2.

Unfortunately, it looks like it will be spring before the project is started.
