Analyzing Web Analytics

Tab 0 -- Google Analytics
Google Analytics
We are currently using Google Analytics (who isn't?) and though it works great for my ecommerce site, it doesn't have enough "path through the site" tracking for a social networking site.  We also needed something that would work in 'real time'.  The day delay on this package makes it difficult to know what is going on when you have a very active site.

So, I embarked on a Google search of the options.  Here is what I found.

(BTW, you can copy this binder if you are also analyzing web analytics. On your copy you can remove my comments and add your own.)

Tab 1 -- ClickTracks Pro
ClickTracks
No pricing on site - requested pricing (I think - they could make this a little easier) But overall this looks like a great package:
  • Great path view
  • Good navigational report
  • Good page analysis
  • Visitor profiling that can be combined with navigational report
  • Robot view of site
  • Available as either desktop or hosted software
I asked a sales person to contact me but he got back to me two weeks later!

VisiStat
Yea!  A crisp, clear site with an on-line tour that I don't have to register to see.  Thank you VisiStat (though I would appreciate a demo that was designed for a 1024x768 screen).  Here are the features I like:
  • Alerts
  • Visitor identification
  • Alarms
  • Good click-path details
Pricing starts at $19.95 a month for 25,000 page views, but I'm afraid we would quickly out grow that.  But it is $0.50 per 1000 pageviews after that. With discounts starting at over 250,000 page views.

The sales person was wonderful - Very ontop of things!

WebTrends
Wow, this website is really overwhelming. There are no videos and you have to register to download a datasheet!  Oh my, I need to find a web 2.0 company

Well this website is much better than it used to be.  But it still is making me register for a demo.  Looks like a comprehensive package, but they make you register to get any detail.

Interesting real-time website monitoring though the windows-based view looks a little archaic.

This seems to be designed for live-chat and engaging your visitors.  I don't think this is what we are looking for, though the price is reasonable at $45 a month.

Tab 6 -- Coremetrics
Coremetrics
Well, at least this site was easy to navigate.  But yet another site that won't tell me about their product without registering on their site. You call this marketing?!  You are supposed to engage your prospects, not chase them away.

Tab 7 -- IndexTools
Just bought by Yahoo
Rumors are that Yahoo will be offering this product for free
